Torch celebrations flaming brilliant!

THE MINISTER for Culture Arts and Leisure Caral Ni Chuilin has praised Coleraine Borough Council for their efforts in the Torch relay back in June.

The letter was brought to the attention of councillors attending a meeting of Coleraine Borough Council last Tuesday.

In the letter the Minister recognised the planning and dedication of Council staff for not only “ensuring the torch’s safe passage through the Council area, but also in the excellent staging of the evening celebrations in Portrush.”

Minister Ni Chuilin singled out Coleraine Borough Council’s PR Manager, Tara Cunningham for praise.

“I think you will agree that the excellent cooperation between my Department, the Council and the various agencies across Ireland ensured a smooth and memorable journey for the Olympic Flame,” said the Minister.

Alderman Maurice Bradley, who was Mayor at the time of the event, described Council’s torch celebration as “second to none in the whole of the Province.”
