Tour de Donaghbrook charity cycle

BROOKE and Madison Elston, six and seven years old, are doing a unique sponsored bicycle ride in two weeks to raise money for widows and orphans in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

The sisters, students at Leaney Primary School in Ballymoney, are going to start at Donaghbrook and do five laps of the bicycle path. Edwina Chambers of Drop Inn Ministries asked them to take part after she visited Rwanda four years ago. It also motivated her to organise a five mile sponsored walk.

Madison said,"I wanted to help and I like cycling so being sponsored to ride my bike is brilliant."

Charity work is very important to the sisters. Madison did the route two years ago, raising 157 for Drop Inn Ministries, and is excited for the upcoming event. Furthermore, three years ago she used her birthday money to buy 15 goats for widows in Rwanda because she decided she didn't 'need' a birthday present. Both girls also asked friends and family to not buy them birthday presents but make cash donations so they could adopt a tiger and a leopard.

At present, 150 children attend the Drop Inn Ministries' school in Burkina Faso, the world's second poorest country. It costs 5 per month to teach each student, financed solely by donations.

Edwina Chambers said,"It is moving to see children whose hearts are set on helping people. The girls are excited to give and help others."

Edwina added,"It has rained very little this year in Burkina Faso so crops can not grow and people have no food. This money will be used to feed them."

Furthermore, on 21st August there will be a five mile sponsored walk from the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre at 2pm to raise money for Burkina Faso .

Brooke and Madison are keen to raise as much money as possible and would be very grateful for any donations.
