Tourism advert 'faux pas' must not sour relations - McClarty

ULSTER Unionist East Londonderry MLA David McClarty has said that Adrian McQuillan should raise his very valid concerns about the Northern Ireland Tourist Board's wording for a Londonderry tourism advertisement with the relevant Minister, Arlene Foster.

“Mr McQuillan is quite rightly concerned by NITB’s unfortunate choice of words. Given that his party colleague is the Minister responsible for Tourism and the NITB, I hope Adrian will be lifting the phone to Arlene Foster,” said Mr McClarty.

“I agree that the wording of the advertisement was very unfortunate, however I am confident that it can and will be rectified.

“Mr McQuillan was quite right to raise the issue but it should not be blown out of proportion or sour relations as we go forward. The reality is that we have a unique opportunity to bring international artists and tourists into the area and it is of paramount importance that we get everything right.

“Local politicians have a duty to ensure that the relevant public bodies, the council, the Executive and the community work together harmoniously in order to sell Londonderry - this is what I will be endeavouring to do.

“Given the opportunities that will flow from Londonderry’s United Kingdom City of Culture title, we need to capitalize on this opportunity, and am glad that Mr McQuillan has seen fit to bring the matter to Minister Foster’s attention.”
