Tourism businesses take a tour of the borough

DO YOU know what is out there in the local area for visitors and you to do in your leisure time?

Last week the Newtownabbey Tourism Forum members took the opportunity to check out the possibilities in the local area and to see the best of what Newtownabbey has to offer tourists this summer during a tour of the borough.

The tour was requested by members of Newtownabbey Tourism Forum and it gave accommodation, attraction and activity providers the chance to experience at first hand the facilities at Patterson’s Spade Mill, Laurelview Equestrian Centre, Need 4 Speed Karting, Ballyrobert Cottage Garden, Oregano, Ballyclare Golf Club, Tildarg Fishery, Greenacres Golf Centre and Sentry Hill.

Commenting on the tour, Lisa O’Kane, Tourism Events Manager at Newtownabbey Borough Council said: “Those taking part on the tour were overwhelmed at the number of different things to do here in Newtownabbey, many of which are not well known.

“Having a chance to experience these ‘hidden gems’ first hand was very beneficial for front-of-house staff in our hotels and B ’n Bs who are often asked what there is to do on our doorstep. It was also an excellent networking opportunity for those in the tourism sector and we look forward to viewing more attractions and activities in the borough”.

Newtownabbey Tourism Forum was established in 2005 to effectively market the tourism product in Newtownabbey, encourage networking among the tourism sector and to provide information on legislation and forthcoming activities to local business owners.

The forum is a partnership between the council and the private sector.
