Town all set for Giro arrival

After heavy overnight rain, Ballymena woke up to bright weather - but with some serious dark clouds gathering overhead it would seem the weather forecast for heavy rain is likely to be correct.

The giro route closed to traffic from 9am and will remain closed until around 12.30pm in the town with the A-26 closure lasting considerably more.

Police cones are currently marking out the route, along with streamers of pink bunting and other giro promotion material.

The ‘caravan’ promotional element of the Firo is expected in Ballymena shortly after 10am with the actual race predicted to arrive at Antrim Road around 11.50am.

Remember, these are approximate timings as stated on Giro promotional literature.

Our advice is get there early for a good view. And bring an umbrella with you - and if you’ve got a pink one, so much the better!
