Town centre chase man spat at police

A bare-chested man ran off from a disturbance in the centre of Coleraine and, when caught by police, spat at an officer who discovered the defendant had £40 of cannabis.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court, Graeme Jon Moore (25), of Circular Mews, Coleraine, was put on probation for a year and ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service when he was sentenced on charges of disorderly behaviour; assault on police and possession of a Class B drug.

The offences came to light on May 6 at Long Commons.

A prosecutor said police heard a disturbance and saw two groups of people arguing. A woman claimed that during the incident she was kicked in the chest and was struggling to breathe.

Whilst the PSNI were dealing with the disturbance Moore ran off and when caught was aggressive and as he was being handcuffed he swore at police and spat.

District Judge Liam McNally noted Moore was given a jail sentence in January this year and said it seemed the defendant had “difficulty learning his lesson”.
