Town mourns death of Patsy McGoldrick

regret in the community.

Patsy McGoldrick died last Tuesday following a long illness which he bore with courage and dignity. He had been in hospital on several occasions but always remained cheerful and in a positive frame of mind.

It was this positive attitude that characterised Patsy’s approach to life and made him such a popular figure with countless friends from all sections of the community.

Patsy was employed by the Water Service and he also served the public well as a Fireman in the town.

However, he was best known as a market stallholder and few will have attended the Oul Lammas Fair and not seen his stall bulging with dulse and yellow man.

One of his best friends, Councillor Seamus Blaney, said he had many fond memories of Patsy working with him on the selection panel for McQuillans hurlers in the town in the late 1970’s.

“Patsy was the first aid man as well as a selector and he was given the name ‘Dr. Iodine’ which he always gave him a laugh. He always had a smile on his face and never bemoaned his own problems, always enquiring how others’ were. I have some great memories of the wee man.

“I never knew him to have any enemies. He was someone who easily spotted a bargain and we are all the poorer for his loss,” Seamus said.
