Town Probus Club returns after summer break

In welcoming back members, club president, Jim Fitzsimons, was pleased to report that the club is still flourishing. “We have been a Club since 1975. We have a very committed membership and we are looking forward to another year’s programme of meetings,” he stated. “Each week we have an attendance of around 30 members.”

The name Probus reflects the professional and business background of the club’s members. The President explained, “Our members spent their working lives in business or in the professions.”

Jim continued, “All of us enjoy the social aspect, engaging in conversation and sharing experiences over coffee each week.”

“But on most weeks there is also the chance to hear a guest speaker.

“We keep abreast of local and community issues and so we invite speakers on as wide a range of topics as we can.” Probus Club holds its meetings at Lisburn Golf Club every Thursday between 10.30am and 12 noon. Guests in this year’s programme are to include speakers from the Fire and Rescue Service and the Patient and Client Council.

An interesting visit has already been held to the Public Records Office in the Titanic Quarter.
