Town will come alive

LURGAN'S 400th birthday celebrations continue with a free fun day for all the family in the town centre next Saturday.

From 12noon to 4pm the streets of Lurgan will come alive with the GI six piece American Show Band, The Lindy Hoppers, The Millies, comedians Paddy and Paddy and old fashioned fairground rides and street games.

Candy floss and popcorn will be on the go as well as City Beat’s road show. The god news is, it’s all free.

But with 400 years of history there is also a fantastic exhibition of Lurgan past and present in Lurgan Town Hall mostly focusing on the stories and the development of Lurgan as a town.

From Majorie McCall – the lady who died once but was buried twice - to James McCabe one of the top clock makers in the UK, Lurgan has a plethora of history to celebrate. There is an interactive exhibition and display in Lurgan Town Hall with weaving demonstrations and a chance to find out more about your ancestry.

“We’re continuing with our range of celebrations for Lurgan’s 400 birthday," commented Mayor of Craigavon Alderman Stephen Moutray.

"And this Fun Day and Exhibition on the October 9 is not to be missed. We hope that the shops and businesses will back this celebration by putting on special promotions or perhaps signature dishes in the restaurants. It’s a time for the whole town to get together and celebrate in style."
