Trader joins in town clock campaign

A TOWN centre trader has launched a campaign for the repair of the clock at St Nicholas’ Church.

Noel Hartley of Hartley Fruit and Veg on West Street decided to do his bit to get the timepiece ticking again after the issue was raised by Councillor Noel Williams at last month’s meeting of Carrickfergus Borough Council.

“Over the last couple of weeks I put up a hamper at my shop in aid of the NI Hospice and my customers donated £230 for the charity. If my customers can be this kind for one cause I think they might just be equally generous to donate to this worthy cause. That’s why I am once again putting up a bumper hamper as the incentive,” said Noel.

“I think people don’t actually need such an incentive but a hamper of healthy fruit might just encourage them to donate a few pence.”

Meanwhile, Councillor Williams confirmed the local authority are currently addressing the issue. “I applaud Mr Hartley for his positive attitude and hope that his customers will support his initiative,” he added.
