Following the publication of the masterplan for the regeneration of Larne town centre, work has been progressing to implement some of the projects suggested in the plan. This includes improvements to the public realm – pavements and open spaces – and the Department for Social Development (DSD) has indicated there may be £2m available for this project in 2014/2015, subject to economic appraisal and confirmation of funds.

Larne Borough Council has appointed URS Infrastructure and Environment UK Ltd to design the scheme as well as liaise with businesses, utility and service providers to ensure that the agreed proposals are robust, fit for purpose and help create a unique atmosphere for the town centre.

The first in a series of contacts and consultations during the design process took place on Tuesday, March 19 and was attended by councillors, town centre traders and businesses, and council officers.

The event provided an opportunity to express views about the issues that are important for the development of the scheme proposals. There will be further consultation events in the next months.

Traders who were unable to attend and who wish to make their views known should contact Robert Preston of the design team by e-mailing [email protected] or Hazel Bell at the Town Development Office on e-mail [email protected] or by calling 028 2826 3041.
