Filled with a range of events, some of which were captured on TV, the gathering of poets, singing events and story telling were a particular success according to organisers.

“This occasion has helped engender new life into an ancient art form which once upon a time thrived in west and mid-Tyrone,” said a champion for the school, Francis Clarke.

“Local traditional singers who excelled on the night were Cathal O Donnghaile, The Scallon sisters from Gortin, Kevin Goodwin. Other contributions were from Ulster champion lilter Ulster Seán O Roideáin from Carrickmacross.

“And a story collected in the Tyrone Gaeltacht in Irish, told by Sinead Ni Mhearnog, Proinsias O Faircheallaigh and Kevin Goodwin.”

Trad singing in English, also went down well and Mourne man, Gerry Doyle with his Co Clare born wife said many of the events were “as good as it comes round”.

Speaking about the event, Mr Clarke added: “Following this a céilí took place among neighbours and friends, followed by an awe-inspiring presentation from Dr Kay Muhr, Senior Researcher of NI Place-Name Project at QUB.

“Then annual walk on the final Sunday through the vast Sperrins was set in the Goles area was led by John Donaghy, with some returning to base weary as the darkness was closing in.

“But back at Peadar Joe Haugheys another TV crew filmed while those around the campfire played the night away a lovely finish to a great Feile.”
