Traffic chaos fears allayed

NORTHERN Ireland Water and Phoenix Gas have confirmed that ongoing works on the Upper Road, Greenisland and on the Shore Road at Whiteabbey are scheduled for completion by the end of August.

The companies were responding to concerns that temporary traffic signals and lane restrictions on the busy commuter routes could still be in force when the schools go back after the summer holidays.

The restricted traffic flow on both roads has been causing major hold-ups for motorists for a number of weeks. But some drivers have expressed fears that if the lane closures are still in place when the number of cars on the roads increases during school term time, local people will be left facing traffic chaos.
