Traffic disruption for two months at city centre gateway to fix sewer

TRAFFIC will be disrupted at one of the main junctions leading to Londonderry city centre as essential sewerage work takes place over the next two months.

Following a short break to facilitate events in the city, NI Water will resume the final stage of its essential Sewer Improvement Work on the Pennyburn Road roundabout from the October 8, 2012 until November 24, 2012.

As with all work of this nature, there will be an element of disruption as the inside lane on the roundabout and an approach lane on each branch of the roundabout (Culmore Road, Buncrana Road and Bay Road) will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday – Friday.

Traffic flow will be restricted to one lane approaching the roundabout in all directions. Work within the confines of the roundabout will be carried out during normal working hours to minimise noise and disruption to local residents.

This work is part of a wider £30 million ongoing programme of improvements for the sewerage infrastructure within the city. The work will also reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and will meet the city’s existing and future development needs.

NI Water and its contractor, Shearwater Consortium, would like to thank the public in advance for their patience, and assure them that we will do everything we can to minimise inconvenience to businesses and residents and complete this essential work as quickly as possible.
