Train narrowly misses youths - warning issued

At around 7:45pm, it was reported that a train narrowly missed three youths. The youths were taken onto the train. Enquiries are continuing.

Frank Moore, Translink Route Manager (Rail), Londonderry line, said: “We would remind everyone of the dangers of trespassing on tracks, as in addition to scheduled services there is also testing of the last of our new trains happening day and night.

“Our new train fleet is much quieter and faster than our older models and a moment’s carelessness could lead to dire consequences. Our summer rail safety campaign is based on the ‘Deadline’ theme and highlights the dangers of crossing the line, whether on the platform or close to tracks.

“To encourage the public to report instances of anti-social behaviour, we operate a reward scheme which will make a cash payment of up to £1000 to any member of the public who witnesses any incident of trespass, vandalism or assault against a member of staff and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction.

“We would also ask parents to remind children and young people to stay off the tracks this summer.”
