Trained to save lives

COUNCIL staff in Larne have been trained in emergency life-saving techniques.

Fourteen employees – including 10 leaders in the local authority’s summer scheme – took part in the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart Emergency Life Support (ELS) training recently.

They learned how to respond to someone choking, bleeding heavily from an injury and what to do when someone is having a heart attack. .

Summer scheme leader Jonny Michael told the Larne Times: “This training is important for almost everyone as it really equips you with the knowledge and confidence to respond to an emergency in a way that could save a life.

“It was particularly useful in regard to dealing with heart attacks.”

The course was delivered by Bernie McKenna, who is a community resuscitation development officer with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.
