Transition costs equal for all

A Moyle councillor has questioned why the smallest council area in the new ‘super Council’ should pay the same transition costs as its much larger sister local authorities.

Cllr Donal Cunningham raised the issue at Thursday’s meeting of the Transition Committee of the new Causeway Coast and Glens Council which will come into being in 2015.

During a presentation to the Transition Committee in Coleraine, members heard that each member council will pay an equal 25% of costs for the Transition Committee.

Cllr Cunningham said: “Surely as the smallest council it is unfair that we pay 25%?”

In response, Gerry McCourt from Limavady Council’s Finance department, explained that it was simply DoE guidance. He added that the equal cost reflected the equal number of councillors from each council sitting on the Transition Committee.
