Translink apologise for train delay

TRANSLINK have apologised for any inconvenience caused by a signal failure which meant it took a number of hours for people to travel between Belfast and Ballymoney.

A spokesperson said: “On Saturday July 21st, a signalling failure at Whiteabbey caused significant delays for passengers travelling on the 15.10 service from Belfast, Great Victoria Street to Coleraine.

“The train returned to Gt. Victoria Street station where passengers were given the option to travel on scheduled Ulsterbus services or on the 17.10 rail service to Coleraine.

“We would like to apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience caused by this signal failure and subsequent delays.”

Last week Ballymoney-based North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey said he had written to Translink asking why a train took “four hours” to get from Belfast to Ballymoney.

Mr Storey said last week: “Having spoken to some of the passengers involved I am extremely concerned that it took this length of time for passengers to travel to Ballymoney. From what has been told to me the communication as to what was the problem and as to how it was being dealt with was unacceptable.

“I have now taken the issue up with Translink and intend to meet with them to ensure that we do not have a repeat of this incident.”
