Translink swings into action for Irish Open Golf

TRANSLINK is providing dedicated coach, train and park & ride services for golf fans from Ballymena heading to the 2012 Irish Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club, June 28 – July 1.

With thousands of additional visitors expected to descend on the popular North Coast seaside town, golf fans are being encouraged to plan their journeys in advance.

Translink North Eastern Area Manager Arthur Hamilton says there are many travel options available: “The Irish Open is set to be one of this year’s sporting highlights and we want to ensure visitors to Portrush enjoy hassle-free journeys and that traffic congestion in the area is reduced as much as possible.

“The European Tour has already announced record ticket sales and hundreds of people have already booked their travel with us by coach or train. We would strongly encourage remaining ticket-holders to also think about how they will get safely to and from Royal Portrush.

“In addition to normal scheduled services, extra trains will run from Ballymena to Portrush with tickets available to book online or purchase in advance from main train stations.

“Dedicated golf coach services will depart from Ballymena and are available to book online only.

“Our golf coach and train return services are £15 per adult and £7.50 per child.

“We have worked closely with the European Tour, NITB, Coleraine Borough Council and the PSNI to devise a suitable transport plan for this high profile event and we are looking forward to bringing thousands of additional passengers to the North Coast.”
