Translink unveils clever new scheme for commuters

BUS commuters are set to benefit from huge savings with the introduction of an innovative new annual travel card scheme.

Launched this week, the TaxSmart travel card allows commuters to save money on both Income Tax and National Insurance contributions by paying for bus travel directly from their salary. This can mean savings of up to 31 per cent on the cost of annual bus travel for Metro and Ulsterbus.

Translink will be rolling the scheme out to major employers across Northern Ireland during the coming months.

Transport Minister Conor Murphy explained: “TaxSmart will help the environment by encouraging more sustainable travel, as well as bringing cost benefits for individual travellers. I wish Translink well with the TaxSmart scheme and I look forward to its roll-out to employers in the year ahead.”

Catherine Mason, Group Chief Executive with Translink added: “TaxSmart is part of our ongoing programme to provide customers with convenient and cost-effective travel solutions, making greener travel more accessible and attractive. With three types of TaxSmart card available providing unlimited travel for your specific journey between home and work, this card offers really great value and is easy to use.”
