Transport NI dismiss '˜delisting' complaints

In a statement to the Ballymoney Times, a TransportNI spokesperson highlighted that the bridge had been delisted in 1997 and this was not related to the recent repair work.

The statement continued: “The Dervock Bridge structure was delisted in 1997. Therefore delisting of this structure was not related with the repair works to the parapet carried out in earlier this year.

“TransportNI hold records of all the Listed Bridges throughout the network. Any works that are required are carried out in accordance with appropriate guidelines following full consultation prior to works commencing.

“This particular bridge was inspected by Structures Section in February 2016 following a report of damage caused by a road traffic collision.

“The damage was confined to the parapet wall and therefore was passed to the local Maintenance Office for their Measured Term Contractor to carry out the remedial works.

“TransportNI is not satisfied with the standard of the repair works and the contractor has been instructed to return to the site.

“The cost of these works will be borne by the person who caused the damage and not paid from the public purse.”

Listed buildings and structures are dealt with by NIEA. They decide whether a building or structure is listed.
