Mid Ulster Sinn Féin Councillor Niall McAleer said: “A number of residents and community representatives have raised concerns with me about the speed of traffic on the Ardboe Road in Moortown. I have discussed this issue with officials in both Mid Ulster District Council and the Department of Infrastructure and asked them to explore measures to combat this.

“I would urge motorists to be mindful of their speed on the Ardboe Road, as it is a relatively narrow stretch of road with St Peter’s Primary School and numerous housing developments situated along the frontage. If an accident were to occur on this road involving excess speed the consequences could be disastrous.

A representative of the local community group, Loughshore Community Services, agreed with the need for traffic calming measures saying: “There have been a number of incidents lately due mainly to excess speeding. The population in the village area is continually expanding, leading to more traffic. Any traffic calming measures would be welcome”
