Castledawson: motorists advised of road closure during £0.6m resurfacing scheme
Motorists are advised to allow additional time for their journey during £600,000 resurfacing work on the Hillhead Road, Castledawson
The scheme commencing on Monday, February 2, will extend from No.1 Harmony Hill for 3.5 kilometres to near the junction with A54 Oldtown Road.
Announcing the project, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: “This is a substantial investment for the Castledawson area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.
"I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) says it will be necessary to implement a road closure between the Lurganagoose Road in Knockloughrim and Oldtown Road junctions, between the hours of 7.30am and 5.30pm from Monday 2 February until Friday 13 March.
During these times, signed diversionary routes will be in place via Lurganagoose Road, A6 Glenshane Road, A54 Magherafelt Road, Main Street and Moyola Road and vice versa.
In a statement, DfI added: “The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience.
"However, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.”
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday, March 13.
