And on Sunday August 26 the closures will run from 6am to 10pm.

During these closures diversions for out of town bound traffic will begin on Church Square, taking traffic up Dromore Street and onto the Dromore Road, before joining the A1 and leaving it at the Old Manse Road.

Traffic heading into the town will be diverted from the Old Manse Road and onto the A1 (southbound), coming off at the Rathfriland Road before going to Rathfriland Street and Kenlis Street.

At other times during the week the road will be open although localised works, with traffic control, will be carried out.

A spokesperson for Roads Service said, “Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the works and our contractors will endeavour to facilitate residents, service providers, businesses and church goers but some inconvenience is unavoidable.

“The works are planned on Castlewellan Road at this time in order that our contractor can deliver improvements over the relatively quieter summer months. Roads Service would ask all road users for understanding on this matter as improvements are delivered to the road network in the district.”
