Concern over road junction danger

YET another crash at an accident blackspot has intensified calls to make it safer for both motorists and pedestrians.

Speaking after the three vehicle road traffic collision which took place on Sunday evening at the junction between the Banbridge Road and Moygannon Road, Donaghcloney a local MLA has called for action from Roads Service.

“I have been contacted by a number of concerned constituents after yet another accident occurred at this dangerous junction on Sunday evening,” said Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson, “I have been assured by the local PSNI that no serious injuries were sustained with all involved taken to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment.

“However, I am extremely concerned that it will be only a matter of time before, if left unaddressed, this junction will witness an even more serious accident which may result in fatalities.

“Last year I contacted Roads Service regarding this particular junction following a similar accident and they conducted a site visit. I will be contacting Roads Service as a matter of urgency following this latest accident to again press for action to be taken to make this junction safer - residents are in danger and road users are in danger.”

She added: “The constituents who contacted me have expressed concern the junction is very close to a school bus stop and with children returning to school next week they are understandably worried this will once again prove a dangerous place for them to be.

“There have been a considerable number of accidents over the years at this particular dangerous junction and I know that many local residents and commuters would fully support measures being put in place to reduce the risk of accident. Therefore I will lobby the Roads Service on their behalf to make it safer for everyone.”
