Four-year-old child injured in accident

There’s been a call for 20mph speed limits to be introduced after a four-year-old child was knocked down on Friday.

Councillor Jenny Palmer made the call on DRD Minister Danny Kennedy to make 20mph speed limits the norm in built up areas.

Speaking after the child was knocked down and injured whilst playing with his friends outside his home in Lawnmount Crescent at tea time on Friday, she said her thoughts and prayers are for the little boy and his family and hopes he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Mrs Palmer quoted the reduction in accidents of 18% in Oxford after they introduced 20mph speed limits in built up areas and at the time it was highly controversial but the results speak for themselves.

She urged all motorists to pledge to slow down in built up areas near schools, shops and streets. She said it is key to making our streets and communities safe places we can use and enjoy.
