‘Help elderly with fire safety’

The DUP man said of the promotion, which ended on Sunday: “I would urge everyone to take on board the central message of the campaign: ‘Together we can STOP Fire.”

He added: “The NI Fire and Rescue Service is targeting the most at-risk group from fire – those aged over 65 – as well as the people that care for them, or can influence them, to ensure they have taken all the necessary fire safety precautions to protect themselves.”

Cllr Niblock said: “Of 10 fatalities due to fire in Northern Ireland in the past year, seven were people in that age bracket. We must all do what we can to prevent further deaths.”
