Larne line to be closed for works

Translink confirmed work will be carried out on two culverts on the Larne line between March 5 and March 8.

A spokesperson for the transport provider said: “Translink is in the process of carrying out essential repair work on a number of culverts across the NI Railways network in order to reduce the risk of flooding during periods of heavy rainfall and thus ensure the safety of the network.

“This will include work on two culverts on the Larne Line, which will require a forthcoming line closure during the weekend of Friday, March 5 to Monday, March 8.

“The line will close once the final train passes through on the night of March 5/6, re-opening before the first train on the morning of March 8. This essential work follows initial work on culverts on the line during August 2020.

“Bus substitutions will be in place between Carrickfergus and Larne Harbour throughout the weekend; passengers undertaking essential travel are asked to plan their journeys in advance and to allow extra time for their journey. The train timetable will operate as normal between Great Victoria Street and Carrickfergus throughout.”

The spokesperson added: “Work during the weekend closures will be undertaken during both daytime and night-time hours. Every effort will be made to keep any noise and disruption to a minimum at all times; work will also be carried out according to current government and industry guidance on social distancing to ensure the protection of staff and the community.

“Translink is grateful for the support and patience of the local community as we progress this essential work.”
