Lucky escape as car crosses footpath into shop

THE owner of Lisburn business says she is thankful no one was seriously hurt after a two vehicle road collision resulted in a car crashing over the footpath and into the front of her shop.

Katie Moffett, who is the proprietor of Den Living, which sells beds and bedroom furniture on Longstone Street, was out of the shop on Tuesday morning when the crash occurred but says her sister Jill Divers had been talking to a customer near the window just minutes before the car hit it.

She said: “Jill was with a customer and they had just moved away from the window moments before the crash and were in the middle of the shop when the car went into the front of the shop.

“They are fine - just a bit shook up as you can imagine.”

Katie continued: “I’ve been here for six years and nothing like this has ever happened. I’ve never seen the like of it.

“Considering the number of people who walk past here on the footpath each day it is not even worth thinking about what could have happened,” added Katie.

“There’s quite a bit of bad structural damage and the brickwork and aluminium frames have been damaged. A lot of glass went over the mattresses so I have lost stock but the way the shop is laid out I can close off part of it and continue operating from one half safely.”

Police are investigating the incident and say the driver and a passenger in one of the vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment to non-serious injuries.
