Work to the roundabout commenced in March 2020, and marked an investment of over £55,000 with more than £44,000 funding coming from the Department for Communities and the Council contributing £11,000.

The upgrade included new Cookstown branding being installed as well as updated signage, enhanced lighting, the installation of a maintenance footpath and cleaning of the existing public art.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan, enforces the strategic importance of the A29 roundabout: “Since 2010, the entry and exit point to Cookstown at the A29 roundabout has had a huge strategic impact on the town, attracting thousands of potential shoppers and visitors who travel along the A29 on a daily basis.

“With this substantial investment from Department for Communities, the A29 Roundabout has been upgraded and now reflects the refreshed Cookstown brand: ‘Cookstown Looking Good, Feeling Great’.”

Communities Minister Carál Ní Chuilín added: “The refreshment of the Cookstown brand ‘Looking good, feeling great’ provided an ideal opportunity to regenerate the A29 Roundabout, a key Gateway into the town and heighten the awareness of the town’s offering.

“Now more than ever, the regeneration, promotion and marketing of our town centres is vital to reinforce confidence in them as places to live, work and visit.”
