Man at centre of evacutation found dead

Martin Aspin visited the Leader office last week in what he said was a bid to reassure residents of the Banbridge estate that they were never at risk during the evacutation that took place on Monday April 11.

The 33-year-old father-of-two was found dead at Burnview Terrace on Sunday April 17. Around 20 families were evacuated from Edenderry Park last week when Mr Aspin locked himself in an attic with a gas cylinder.

Emergency services were called to the scene and it is understood Mr Aspin was taken to the Bluestone Unit in Craigavon for a number of days afterwards.

When he visited the Leader office last week, Mr Aspin said he wanted to reassure residents in Edenderry Park they were in no danger during the emergency evacuation.

“I want to make it clear to the people of Edenderry that it was never my intention to harm anyone,” said Mr Aspin.

“This was a family matter and there was never any chance that harm would come to anyone living in the estate.”

Meanwhile tributes have been left on Mr Aspin’s Facebook page since his sudden death at the weekend. One said, “Sadly missed but will never be forgotten RIP cuz ur an angel above us now love you always.”
