Person hospitalised after Newtownabbey collision

One patient was transferred to hospital following a road traffic collision in the Church Road area of Newtownabbey this morning (Monday).

In a statement issued to this paper, a spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said: “NIAS received a 999 call at 6.26am on Monday, June 22 following reports of a road traffic collision at Church Road, Newtownabbey.

“NIAS dispatched two Emergency Crews to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was transported by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.”

The Church Road remains closed following the incident.

Diversions are in place through Rathcoole estate at West Crescent and close to Church Road Roundabout.

A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson said: “It is expected the road will remain closed through the Monday evening commute home.”
