Praise for clearance operation at Curryfree

DUP Councillor Gary Middleton has thanked the contractors appointed by the Roads Service for the speed with which they acted to clear treacherous road conditions at Curryfree.

Mr Middleton said he had been contacted by concerned locals about the condition of Killymallaght Road, when it re-opened after a five-week closure while work was undertaken at a nearby windfarm.

“I understand some pipe-laying work had been done along the road for drainage purposes, which was reasonable enough, but we had a lot of complaints from constituents when the road re-opened because the road surface had been left in such a poor state.

“Myself and Maurice Devenney took a trip out to Killymallaght Road in the middle of last week, and were shocked to see that a stretch of the carriageway resembled a ploughed field. In places the mud and dirt was so deep the underneath of Maurice’s car was touching the surface of the muck, which was several inches deep. It was unbelievable,” Mr Middleton said.

Paying tribute to Roads Service and the contractors, KPL, for the speed with which they acted to clear the muck, Mr Middleton said they were so concerned about the condition of the road surface they made contact with Roads Service officials urging them to act.
