Roads ‘treacherous’ in Craigavon say PSNI

Motorists in the Lurgan and Craigavon area have been urged to be careful after a number of accidents due to black ice.

There were a number of collisions at roundabouts in the Craigavon area this morning. Several cars and a motorbicycle were involved in an accident at a roundabout on Lake Road shortly before 7.30am.

There were reports of an accident on the Clare Road this morning shortly after 8.30am when a silver 4x4 appears to have hit a pole.

A passerby said the police were in attendance. The vehicle appeared to be heavily damaged on passengerside however there did not appear to be anyone injured.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “All roads in the Craigavon area are extremely treacherous this morning. Drivers are asked if they do intend to travel to drive with caution.”

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving in the Lurgan/Craigavon areas due to icy road conditions. They are advised to avoid the Drumgask Road as there are currently long tailbacks.”

A number of residents have complained that many roads were not gritted by the DoE Roads Service.
