Sorrow after latest tragic suicide death

MORE should be done to help those struggling with the pressures of life, said an SDLP councillor following the latest tragic death in the past week.

The funeral was held on Saturday of the area’s latest suicide victim, 28-year-old Kevin Nelson whose body was found last Thursday, June 28.

Mr Nelson of Drumgor Heights, Craigavon, was a married father originally from the Gawley’s Gate area.

SDLP Councillor Joe Nelson said he knew Kevin. “The wider family circle would be known to me and are far out family relations,” he said.

“It is a tragic event but one that is not uncommon in the Craigavon area in recent weeks.

“The pressures of the current economic climate and on young people in general are severe,” he said.

“The government should double their efforts to ensure more is done to look after those who feel their only option is suicide,” said Councillor Nelson.

He urged anyone who was struggling and needed help to contact organisations such as PIPS and the Samaritans which are only too willing to help and listen.

The late Mr Nelson was the husband of Erin, father of Cillian and stepfather of Chloe.

He was the son of Patrick and Joan Nelson and brother of Connor, Andrew, Noeleen and Bronagh.

His funeral was on Saturday to St Anthony’s Church followed by interment in St John’s Cemetery, Lylo.

His death follows those of 14-year-old Daniel Lennon and 52 year-old Trevor Hobson, both from Lurgan, just in the last fortnight.
