The hunt had been organised by the Friends of the Derry Walls to unpack another quadricentennial story about the building of the Derry Walls between 1613-1618.

Chairperson of the Walls Friends, Niall McCaughan, thanked all of the community and civic museums and arts venues around the Walls who had hosted the Swordsmith’s Treasure Hunt: “The Derry Walls Day Treasure Hunt has become a feature within the events calendar and it provides an opportunity to sample the cluster of venues which help interpret and animate the city walls.”

Secretary of the Walls Friends, Dr Anne McCartney, added: “The support of the national heritage agencies in both Belfast and Dublin demonstrates the significance of the Derry Walls in the cultural heritage inventory of the whole island.

“It is equally important for us to be able to demonstrate local support for our ambitions for the Derry Walls and we were delighted that the Sandwich Co volunteered to be our corporate sponsor for 2016.”

Cecilia McCole of the Sandwich Co helped Mayor McClintock to present the prizes.
