Tree concern

CONCERNS have been raised about the wellbeing of trees within the public realm works programme.

Three trees have been planted, one outside Fa' Joe's pub and the other two on the pavement outside the International Bar as part of the works.

One local gardener said the way the trees had been planted using tarmac was cause for concern.

He said: "These trees need to be able to put their roots down, they need plenty of water.

"Holes have been drilled in to make way for water and in some cases there is a pipe put in to help with watering.

"It looks like it's a temporary measure, but it can't be left like that for too long.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see them start to droop very soon and then they will be lost - and they are good trees."
