Trevor takes on triathlon event

A former Lurgan Rugby Club captain, Trevor is a veteran tri-athlete having participated in events going back to the 1980s.

Said Trevor: “My own introduction to this novel form of endurance sport came from an unusual perspective. I had spent the previous four years playing rugby for Lurgan, I captained the club for the 1981 season. At the end of the season - to give myself a different challenge over the summer period - I decided to direct my energies to training for a marathon.

“However, my enthusiasm for the road running quickly resulted in injury. To maintain fitness I decided to acquire a bike, enjoyed it, and thoughts soon turned to this new “crazy” sport that was being talked about called Triathlon.

He entered a race, came third and that was it, Trevor has never looked back since.

Trevor explained: “In 1987 I had the opportunity to go to compete in what is now known as the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii, 2.4 miles swim, 112 miles cycle, and a 26 mile marathon, in the 100 degree heat of Kona! I managed a top third finish – elated!

“I continued to compete as much as possible in the following years juggling work and family responsibility and completed my last Triathlon in 2000 in Mechelin, Belgium. I am really excited to be part of Skyline’s team, in aid of Marie Curie at the Belfast Titanic Tri!”

Trevor, who works for Skyline Direct, will take part with fellow Skyline Direct colleagues Don Smyth and Gillian McGullogh.

The Belfast Titanic Triathlon takes place in sheltered open water, on a flat and very fast cycle route and finishes with a multi-lap run taking in the city centre.
