Trevor’s 27-mile walk ‘home’ marks start of his retirement

Money is still coming in from supporters for Trevor, who marked several big life events by stepping out in aid of the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Trevor retired from his job at the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) on Good Friday, which was also his 60th birthday.

And rather than just putting his feet up, Trevor did just the opposite by setting himself the challenge of walking from the Omagh MOT centre to the Cookstown MOT centre in aid of the cancer charity.

The MOT centre in Omagh was Trevor’s first test centre when he came into driver and vehicle testing in 1978, while Cookstown is his home town. This is why the challenge – which Trevor completed in seven hours – was named Going Home.

Joining Trevor along the route for a while was his daughter Rosie Hassin, who is a community fundraising officer with UCF, and her sister Louise. Grandson Liam also helped by walking the last three miles.

His sister Pamela, who is currently recovering from recent breast cancer surgery, was pleased to complete a mile of the journey with him,
