It is understood the well respected businessman had been battling cancer for some time.

The football club’s tribute to Raymond said: “It is with great regret and sadness that we learn of the untimely passing of our esteemed club member, Raymond.

“Our deepest sympathies to his sons and playing members Raymond jnr and Peter, and daughter, Claire.

“To the entire family circle we offer our sincere condolences.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Many others have paid tributes to Raymond’s family at this very sad time.

“God that’s devastating news,” said one, while another added: “Another great character gone..RIP Raymond.”

The Hub has also paid their respects to Raymond.

“It is with great sadness The Hub has to commiserate with the family of another great member of the Cookstown community,” their post said.

“An unforgettable character with a very big heart, whose family contributed to the very successful night life in Cookstown.”

Clubland opened its door for the last time under Raymond’s ownership for a charity bash in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, after Elaine Simpson ran a very successful night in aid of the Southern Area Hospice Services in April.

“Everyone who attended the Clubland on April 10 had such a fantastic night reliving their youth while helping to raise money for a much needed charity,” Elaine said at the time.

“Raymond has decided that due to the amount of requests that he has personally received over the last few weeks, and because of public demand, that another night should be held, specially for those who missed out the first time as well as for those who want nothing more than to do it all over again.

“Raymond wishes to continue to help others and has chosen his charity - Marie Curie UK - to benefit from the event,” she added.
