Tributes paid after death of PSNI officer

There were warm words of tribute for a PSNI officer after news of his death at a police station emerged.

He was named as Inspector Peter Magowan.

His death on Monday at Ballymoney PSNI Station is not thought to be suspicious.

DUP Ballymoney councillor Alan McLean said a mood of “shock” had engulfed the area.

He believes the deceased only recently took up duties at the station, and had returned to work after an absence.

The Police Federation of Northern Ireland described him as a “valued and respected colleague”, whilst a Jeff Maguire wrote on Facebook that Insp Magowan was a good cricketer, golfer, and “one of the best men you could meet”.
