Tributes paid as council employee dies after crash

Tributes have been paid to an Antrim Council employee who died following a road accident near Crumlin last week.

Thirty-seven-year-old Alan Kelso was killed in a motorcycle accident last Monday morning.

The fatal collision happened on the Dungonnell Road as Mr Kelso made his way to work at the council’s recycling facility in the town.

Councillors held a minute’s silence at last Thursday’s Environment and Borough Services Committee and expressed condolences to the Kelso family.

Councillor Thomas Burns said the community was ‘stunned’ by the tragedy.

“Alan was very well known in the community and worked in the council’s civic amenity site. He was always extremely helpful to everyone who used the council facility.

“He was a very friendly man, and always appeared happy,” Mr Burns said.

He added: “The whole community is stunned and shocked at his death.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this terribly sad time.”

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and police have appealed to any witnesses, or anyone who noticed Mr Kelso’s silver Honda motorcycle travelling on the Dungonnell Road prior to the crash, to contact them on the new non-emergency number 101.
