Tributes paid at monthly meeting of borough council

On Monday evening, councillors observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Harold Cheshire, father of building maintenance staff member Evan Cheshire, and Hubert William Redmond, brother-in-law of George McElroy from the local authority’s Parks and Countryside department.

Also remembered were Hector ‘Sandy’ McGregor, president of the Whitehead branch of the Royal British Legion, and Stephen McAteer, assistant manager of Islandmagee Football Club.

Mr McAteer’s funeral took place on Friday at Carrickfergus Congregational Church.

Tributes were paid to Heather Steele, who passed away last week following a road traffic collision. Ms Steele was laid to rest at Victoria Cemetery on Tuesday following a funeral service at Greenisland Presbyterian Church.

Council is to write to the families of the bereaved to express condolences.
