Tributes paid in chamber

Former Mayor of Craigavon Frank Dale passed away on Friday.

He was an Official Unionist Party member of Craigavon Council from 1973 to 1981, serving as Mayor in his final year in the council chamber.

The Second World War veteran was buried on Sunday at Seagoe Parish Church.

Alderman Woolsey Smith, who worked as a bus driver with Frank in the 1950s, said the borough had lost a great servant and a great military man.

Tribute was also paid to Sir Allen McClay who died last Tuesday.

Councillor Alan Carson, a former employee of Sir Allen’s at Almac, said he was a great businessmen to whom the borough owed a lot.

Mayor Meta Crozier said Sir Allen was responsible for bringing jobs and a positive image to Craigavon.

Sir Allen died in hospital in Philadelphia with his wife Lady Heather and colleagues from Almac at his bedside.

A service of remembrance to celebrate his life will be held in the borough at a later date.
