Tributes paid to Colm Quinn

The North Coast has been left numb with the sad news that Colm Quinn, known to many as Mr Barry’s, has passed away.

Colm, who was 79, was known by generations as the ‘hobby horse man’.

He had worked on the hobby horses in Barry’s for over sixty years.

Paying tribute to the man they described as an ‘institution’, Kristina and Lisa Trufelli, owners of Barry’s, said that Colm was ‘part of the family’.

Lisa said: “He had time for everyone, and all the children and parents loved him.

“He had a beautiful personality, and when people learned he was in hospital, many wanted to visit him.

“Many of the hospital staff who remembered him from their childhood visited his bedside.”

Lisa said that during the open seasons of Easter and Summer, Colm was the first to arrive to in the morning to open Barry’s and was always the last to leave to lock up.

“He is simply irreplaceable”, said Kristina.

“We are all devastated.”
