Tributes paid to former Coleraine coach Wes Gregg

Tributes have been paid to former Coleraine FC coach Wesley Gregg.

Wesley, who worked for the IFA, passed away last night (Sunday).

Coleraine FC Chairman Colin McKendry passed on the deepest sympaties to the Gregg family circle and friends.

“It is with profound sadness and shock that the Club has learned of the passing of Wes Gregg,” he said.

“Wes was much-respected both on and off the pitch and held in high esteem throughout the senior club and Academy ranks.

“A true Coleraine fan, his passing leaves the club, the community and the wider football family all the poorer.

“Wes loved being out on a football pitch, that was evident to everyone who had the pleasure to know him.

“More than that though Wes was a gentleman of the game and carried himself with the highest integrity.

“On behalf of the Club I would like to pass on our deepest and sincerest condolences to the Gregg family circle, you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

Coleraine manager, Oran Kearney tweeted: “Still struggling to come to terms with the passing of Wes.. A great coach and more importantly person who has touched the lives of many #rip.”

MLA Claire Sugden posted this comment on her Facebook page: “I am very sad and shocked to hear of the passing of Wesley Gregg. He was a gentleman who championed local people & local football. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

Another tribute posted on Facebook from Coleraine fan Alan Simpson read: “Very sad news this morning hearing of the sudden passing of Wesley Gregg . Always a gentleman and inspiration to many . Will never forget those early Crescent days and late nights. Friendship through Football. Thoughts with the family.”

Another message came from Ballymoney United, it read: “Ballymoney United would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friend of Wesley Gregg this morning, it is with sad news at the passing of his death. Wes was always involved in football and had previously helped out at our club he will be sadly missed by all.”

The staff and pupils of Coleraine College tweeted this: “Deepest sympathies from everyone @ColeraineColl go out to the family and friends of Wes Gregg. He will be sorely missed in our community.”
