Tributes paid to former councillor

Mr. Brown died in the early hours of Thursday, aged in his late seventies. He is survived by his wife Noreen, and a large family circle.

Former Sinn Fein MLA Francie Brolly served on Limavady Council with Mr Brown when he was an independent councillor.

“I’m just very sad,” Mr Brolly said. “I never had a better friend. He was so generous, and I’ll really miss him. He was a very good man and always wanted to do the right thing. We felt very much at home with each other.”

SDLP Colr. Michael Coyle spoke of Mr. Brown’s “great energy for his community”, and his charity work. He recalled in 2012 Mr Brown was honoured by Limavady Borough Council in recognition of his charity work.

Keith Leighton worked with Brian at Martin King French & Ingram for over 30 years. He said it was “the end of an era for the oldest firm of solicitors in Ireland”, and everyone was deeply saddened by his passing.

“Brian was highly regarded by all who knew him, both in the legal profession and throughout his wide client base. It is a testament to Brian’s popularity that a lot of his clients regarded him as their friend as well as adviser,” he said.
