Books of condolence were opened in three locations across the Mid and East Antrim Council area, including Carrickfergus Civic Centre, on Monday.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Billy Ashe said that the move would help local people to show “solidarity with the people of France” and provide them with a means of offering their support.

A one-minute silence in memory of the victims was observed across the town on a number of occasions.

These included the civic carol service at St Nicholas’s Church on Saturday evening, along with the latest meeting of the council’s Economic Growth and Development Committee.

Schools, including Downshire, Carrick Grammar and Ulidia, also paid silent tribute during their morning assemblies on Monday.

The French flag was displayed by Carrick Rangers fans during Saturday’s game against Portadown at Shamrock Park.
