Tributes paid to the late Jim Allen

TRIBUTES have been paid to the late Professor Jim Allen, former Provost of the Magee campus and a former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ulster.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Barnett, said: “It is with great sadness that the University has learned of the passing early on Saturday morning of our esteemed colleague, Professor Jim Allen.

“Professor Allen served the University with distinction in a wide variety of roles - most recently as a Pro -Vice -Chancellor and the Provost of the Magee campus. Our thoughts and prayers are with Professor Allen’s family.”

SDLP MP Mark Durkan said: “I am very saddened to learn of the death of Jim Allen.

“He was a proud son of Derry and a strong advocate of university expansion in the city.

“Jim Allen didn’t only oversee development in the Magee campus but also the development of the university’s connections with key sectors in the city and region.

“The sadness and loss of his beloved family will be widely shared throughout the city and beyond.”
