Tributes paid to tragic young man

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 20-year-old Londonderry man who died from injuries sustained when he fell from a second floor window at a Donegal Town hotel shortly before 1am on Sunday morning.

Connor Duddy, from Lecky Road in the Brandywell, died on Monday afternoon, having battled for his life for over 24 hours. Gardai at Donegal Town station said they had investigated the accident and were "not treating it as suspicious". "It's a tragic accident," a Garda spokesperson said.

The late Mr Duddy, who was a member of staff at the Iceland supermarket at Foyleside in Londonderry, is understood to have been on a "magical mystery tour" with a group of his colleagues from the supermarket chain and arrived in Donegal Town in the late afternoon/early evening on Saturday.

Local priest, Fr Roland Colhoun described Mr Duddy as a very popular and a "studious" young man.

Fr Colhoun, who knew Connor and his family well, added: "You could always have relied on him to be well-behaved and talking to his neighbours as well he was extremely well thought of."

A spokesperson for the Abbey Hotel said: "This seems to be just a tragic accident and at this time my thoughts are with this man's family and friends. What started off as a day of enjoyment and sightseeing has ended in tragedy.

"The victim was observed entering the hotel just after midnight on Saturday night as he had taken a wrong turn.

"He had only just come into the hotel and did not even have a drink in the bar and his colleagues had not even arrived in the premises by that time.

"The next I heard was a large thud at approximately 12.20 am and somebody shouting, 'somebody is after falling from a window'

"We immediately called the emergency services, both the Gardai and the ambulance services who were on the scene within minutes and immediately sealed off the area.
